SMS Consent

Business: HNGRY · Version: HNGRY_SMS_CONSENT_V5

Two purposes of SMS at HNGRY

HNGRY uses SMS for two distinct purposes: (1) a one-time text to verify a new member's mobile phone number during signup, and (2) a separate, optional ongoing program of non-marketing transactional texts for meal attendance, reimbursement updates, and HNGRY reminders. The optional program requires a separate, unchecked-by-default consent checkbox at signup. HNGRY does not send promotional or marketing text messages of any kind.

Purpose 1 — Phone verification (required)

Every HNGRY account must be tied to a real, working mobile phone number that the member controls. During signup, HNGRY sends a single one-time verification text containing a short numeric code to confirm the number is correct. This is a transactional message tied directly to the user's signup action, not a recurring program. It is governed by HNGRY's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, not by the optional consent checkbox described below.

Purpose 2 — Ongoing transactional program (optional)

Members may optionally opt in to receive ongoing non-marketing transactional texts from HNGRY for:

  • Meal attendance confirmations when another HNGRY member lists them on a receipt.
  • Status updates on receipt/reimbursement requests they are involved with.
  • Occasional HNGRY reminders (e.g. an upcoming meal or a pending action on a reimbursement request).

These messages are non-marketing only. Members who do not opt in can still create and use a HNGRY account — the same events are delivered through in-app notifications and email.

Complete opt-in workflow

  1. User visits https://hngry.org/join.
  2. User enters their full name, email, mobile phone number, and a password.
  3. HNGRY sends a one-time verification text to the provided number to confirm ownership. This is a single transactional message tied to signup and is sent regardless of the optional consent checkbox below.
  4. User optionally checks a separate SMS consent checkbox containing the full consent text shown below to opt in to the ongoing transactional program. The checkbox is unchecked by default and is not required to create an account. SMS consent is not bundled with agreement to the Terms of Service or Privacy Policy.
  5. User submits the form. No ongoing-program text messages are sent before the user checks the SMS consent box and submits the form.

Exact consent language shown at signup

By checking this box, I agree to receive recurring non-marketing SMS/text messages from HNGRY at the mobile number I provide for: (1) meal attendance confirmations when another HNGRY member lists me on a receipt, (2) status updates on receipt/reimbursement requests I'm involved with, and (3) occasional HNGRY reminders. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Consent is not required to create an account or use HNGRY services. HNGRY does not share or sell mobile numbers with third parties.

Example messages

Verification text (Purpose 1, sent once at signup):

"HNGRY: Your verification code is 123456. This code expires in 10 minutes. If you didn't request this, ignore this message."

Attendance confirmation text (Purpose 2, only sent if opted in):

"HNGRY: You were listed as an attendee on a meal receipt reimbursement request. Reply YES to confirm attendance or NO to decline. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out."

Message frequency & rates

For the optional ongoing program, message frequency varies based on how often a member is listed on a HNGRY meal receipt and on pending reimbursement activity. Message and data rates may apply.

HELP and STOP

Reply HELP to any HNGRY text message for assistance, or email support@hngry.org. Reply STOP to any HNGRY text message to opt out of the ongoing transactional program at any time. The one-time signup verification text is a single message and is not part of any recurring program.

Privacy

HNGRY does not sell, rent, or share mobile phone numbers or SMS consent data with third parties for marketing, promotional, or any other purposes. Mobile information, including SMS opt-in data, is never shared with third parties or affiliates. See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
